Thank you to our SkillsUSA chapter for sponsoring building-wide, PBIS fun with the hosting of a ginger bread house decorating contest. The friendly competition was fierce among the programs!
The month of December has certainly been the month of catering for the OVCTC Culinary Arts Program. The students did an excellent job of creating delicious meals at a high volume for several clients!
Today was "Ugly Christmas Sweater" Day at the OVCTC - thank you to all the students and staff that participated in the Christmas Spirit Week fun!
OVCTC Ag Business class is very thankful for the community partners that we have! We would like to send a special “Thank You” to Mark Wickerham and West Union Electric and Plumbing for donating supplies for our senior electrical projects! The students were required to lay out, measure, install, and troubleshoot at times their circuit boards to properly function. They wired a single pole combination switch and receptacle, an additional receptacle, and two lights bulbs that had to be completely functional. The OVCTC Faculty & Staff did an excellent job bringing holiday cheer to the building this month with their Christmas door / hallway decorations!
World History classes have been studying the topic of imperialism with Mr. Crump at the OVCTC. Students had to create a Christmas Tree that illustrated the reasons behind imperialism, hence the title of the project "Roots of Imperialism". Students had to reference, and research previous information covered on the topic and label them on the Christmas tree. These 10 examples were illustrated on the tree in the form of an ornament. They had three days of class to complete the project. They were graded on a rubric and then the staff judged the projects based on craftsmanship and design. The Top Three projects were as follows.

3rd- Emily Evans, Kristrin Tackett, Garrett Emmerson
Congratulations to Kevin Shreve for winning the 1st Nine Weeks attendance award in Mr. Cooper’s CNC Machining Program! The digital calipers he was presented with are a great acknowledgment of his perfect attendance during the first quarter!
The OVCTC recently sent a student delegation to the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference. Students attended sessions on growing their chapter activities and school / community involvement while also developing their individual leadership skills. Ryken Copas, Lizzie Gerth and Amber Scott worked hard on their regional officer candidacy speeches. Congratulations to Mr. Copas on being elected as a Regional Officer for this school year!
The OVCTC is very proud of our SkillsUSA leadership team and our student members for their community service efforts. They recently collected "stocking stuffers" for our service men & women serving abroad. It is such a kind gesture to send care packages to those serving in the armed forces!
The OVCTC AG BUSINESS program has had a lot of action on the school farm this month with harvest. The students worked very hard to get things rounded up quickly on our soybeans. Special thank you to Bane Welker for providing us with a nice Draper head to get through them quick! They have always been a huge supporter of the Ag Business Program.

Many thanks to the OVCTC students and staff who planned and participated in our Veterans Day program yesterday! It was an honor to give thanks and show our appreciation for all the men and women who have served and are serving in the armed forces to protect American freedom!
More action for the OVCTC FFA at the National Convention in Indianapolis. Sessions, Caterpillar tour, and time at the career expo. Finishing the night off with a hypnotist show and looking forward to watching our 7 American Degree members Saturday morning! Students looking for jobs: MacAllister has over 3000 employees!
The OVCTC Early Childhood Education program worked with our district technology coordinator, Mr. Butcher, to learn about instructional uses of the Epson Interactive Projector. This instructional tool will enhance the classroom experience of the elementary children that the ECE students work with each day!
National FFA Convention has been great for the OVCTC chapter! We have had safe travels and our members have shared in many great experiences! We began our trip with the FFA career show and expo, participated in opening session, attended the World’s Toughest Rodeo, bowled with our friends from Manchester FFA, and made many other new friends and acquaintances. Special thanks to Wood Mizer for hosting our tour of their facility! Students were able to operate one of their portable sawmills and learned about their operation. More to come!
This week, Mr. Palmer took the Auto Tech students and Ag Mechanic students to visit the ODOT garage and hear about the job opportunities there! Automotive Technology senior, Isaac Harding, who is on early placement there, gave us the tour and talked to the students about what he is doing and learning there! Many thanks to the ODOT employees for the tour and taking time to talk to the students .

Many thanks to the OVCTC Health Careers Technology Program and their instructor, Mrs. Grooms, for hosting a Hoxworth Blood Drive in October. 26 pints of blood were donated which equals 78 lives saved!
The Early Childhood Education Program will be sponsoring the Kona Ice Truck during our Parent / Teacher Conferences on Monday evening, October 30th, from 3 - 6 PM. Come to conferences and grab a refreshing, icy treat and support this ECE fundraiser!
