Yesterday evening, during the regular board meeting, school cooks from across the district were recognized for their consistent effort in making sure our students are served a great breakfast and an even better lunch each day! We may be biased, but we feel the cooking team at NAE is the best of the best! The work that Pam, Tracy, Crystal, Teresa (not pictured) and Desirae (not pictured) do on a daily basis is an important part of our success at NAE!

We are very impressed with Harper! During the lockdown drill, Harper was in the hallway and took safety in a staff bathroom with the door locked until he knew it was safe to exit. He was very prompt and knew exactly what to do! Great job!

Attention all 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Parents..... We are in the process of developing another after school program for our students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades that will take place every TUESDAY from 2:45-4:45. This program is STEM related and students will be working with robotics and several other STEM related materials to complete projects that are designed to be very engaging and very fun! Permission slips will be coming home with students on Friday. If your child is interested in participating, please complete and turn in. There is limited space available for this program, so it is a first come-first serve basis! If you have questions, please contact our office.

Chick quest turned our 3rd grade students into engineers on Tuesday! Students were provided with a scenario requiring them to create a way to move eggs from a hen's nest to a conveyor belt without breaking the eggs. Students were challenged to plan, design, and create a method of moving the raw eggs using only 8 sheets of paper and an arm's length of masking tape. Students put their creations to the test as raw eggs were dropped through the creations. Several groups of students successfully designed a method of moving the raw eggs! It was a fantastic STEM activity using creativity, social skills, and brainstorming ideas!

Last week, our 5th grade classes enjoyed hands-on trip to Green Acres. They took a hike in the woods to learn how they tap the trees to get syrup. Students had a chance to taste the sap directly from the tree and empty the buckets of sap. When going to the sugar shack, the students saw how the process of making syrup took place. They were fascinated by how it starts off clear and then darkens overtime. Students had the opportunity to taste the syrup at two different stages, one that resembled "tea" and the other was fully cooked syrup. They had activities inside that have more information on maple syrup making and the environment.
