West Union Elementary would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Auston Bryant!

Below is information regarding the upcoming school year. We are continuing to develop a plan for students to return to school on August 19th. This is some general information about what students can expect when they return to school. Please keep in mind that as circumstances change, the plan may be change. We hope to release a more detailed plan in the next week of two but we did want to provide you some general information. We understand that as a parent you are anxious and would like to know what is going on with school. While there are still details being worked out, we wanted to share an overview of what we have. First, our current plan is for students to begin school on August 19th and attend school five days a week. We have made numerous changes to help protect our students and keep them safe. Due to dual routing, the times for the school day have changed. School will tentatively start at 9:00 and dismiss at 3:15. Doors will open at 8:30. For parents, pick up and drop off procedures will be the same as in previous years. The school has added staff members and implemented new procedures for sanitation. The school has also made numerous changes to allow for social distancing. This includes but is not limited to the rearrangement of classrooms, changes in schedules, and overall procedures. A few major examples of the changes being implemented this year are breakfast, lunch and recess. To avoid a large congregation, students will be eating their breakfast in their classrooms. Lunches will be served in the cafeteria or small gym. Grade levels will not be combined in either area, staff will handle all distribution of food. We will continue to provide recess for students but they will be grouped by their homeroom in zones. All after school programs and activities have been cancelled at this time. This includes the kindergarten and 6th grade programs originally scheduled for early August. The cancellation will also include Back to School night. For students in grades preschool through 2nd, the teacher will be contacting parents to schedule a time to meet. In grades 3rd - 6th, teachers will be contacting parents prior to the start of the school year. Supply lists were mailed earlier this year. If you have misplaced your copy, this list has also been uploaded to the school website and facebook page. Again, this is not a complete list of all the changes being made but is a general overview of changes that we are making. If you have serious concerns about your child returning to school, the district has created a virtual option for students. Please contact Ben King at school to discuss this option and obtain additional information. Again, we ask that you are patient with us as we continue dealing with state and local mandates. We will release additional information as school and district plans are finalized. Thank you for your ongoing support and patience during this very challenging situation.
