Yearbook spirit week!
Wagon Wheel Coffee Shop had its grand opening today! The student ran coffee shop, operated by the PACE program, is open to staff, and will be open to students soon! The coffee shop allows students to collaborate as a team and have opportunities to operate the coffee shop with support. We can’t wait to continue to serve staff and students everyday! Cheers!
Our ag soils team of Cole Watters, Braxton Burns, Kaden Schweitzer, and James Work placed 3rd overall in the agricultural soils event and will be advancing to state! Watters was 5th overall, Burns 6th, and Schweitzer 10th individually out of nearly 100 individuals. Our urban team of Annabelle Bushelman, Kamryn Gibson, Shyanne Powers, and Josie Walters placed 8th overall. Bushelman was 12th individually and Powers and Walters judged their first soils contest ever today. Congrats to all of our members evaluating soil today!

OVCTC soils teams are competing at district competition today. Our ag team (back row left to right) consists of Kaiden Hafer, Gabby Yates, James Work, Cole Watters, and Kaden Schweitzer. We will be waiting to hear results on their performance in a day or two and want to extend a huge thank you to a couple of people. First, Tisha Wolfer and Cherry Fork Feed and Supplies. Tisha has always supported FFA and 4H members and went above and beyond to get our team updated with buckets and water bottles for the contest. We thank them for their support! Thanks also to Raines Farms and Greenhouses for hosting our district site, and to our local soil and water department for organizing the event!
Ohio Valley FFA places 11th in the state! Just a fraction away from being top ten in forestry, these students competed in a challenging contest to identify trees, forestry equipment, cruise timber, identify forestry disorders, and troubleshoot chainsaws and ID chainsaw parts.
The team placed first in the district. Top four scores were Drew Kreml placed first individually in the district respectively, Kaden Schweitzer followed (2nd individual in the district), Bryce Winterod (3rd individual in the district, and lastly Maddox Martin to round out our top four individuals. Ian Raines, Jaydon Reckers, and Beau Hesler finished out the team and all had a great performance in a challenging state contest. Thank you to Hocking College for hosting the event! 22 young women from several different programs attended the SHEDIG Operating Engineers Event in Logan, Ohio, hosted by the Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program and IUOE Local 18.
The day started with stories from instructors and female apprentices about their journeys in the trades. Then our students had the chance to hop in the driver’s seat and operate heavy equipment, digging, and moving dirt while learning about the skills needed for these in-demand careers.
Students were provided lunch, t-shirts, photos and information about the Operating Engineers Local 18 Apprenticeship & Training Program, which offers union wages, benefits, and long-term career opportunities.
Local 18’s motto sums it up best: “Together We Train – Together We Gain.”

Our Culinary Arts program has been busy behind the scenes! From prepping banquets and serving lunches to helping local clubs with their big events, our students are gaining real-world experience while keeping the community well-fed.
OVCTC students competed in the local forestry contest held at Shawnee park on Friday, September 19th. They took first place team overall and Bryce Winterod placed 1st individually. In addition, Maddox Martin placed 2nd high individual. The students are continuing to work hard for state contest this coming Saturday at Hocking College. Science students have been learning what organisms are in the environment right around us, from microscopic water bears (tardigrades), various native plants such as ironweed, cattails, and jewelweed, to venomous caterpillars!
Environmental science students collected leaves and flowers from around the school about four weeks ago. The leaves and flowers were finally ready to seal in wax paper!
Community Service students have been working on organizing clothing donations for the OVCTC's new clothing closet. The closet is available for students who may need extra clothes or toiletry items. Thanks to all those who donated! If you would like to donate, we are in need of jeans of all sizes and deodorant.
Advanced biology students created cell models with modeling clay, air dry clay, or even cake!
When we can't find what we need, we make it!
Career Cafe was open for business today and the baked potato bar was a hit!
