Wednesday, May 14th, was a day of community service for the students of the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center’s IST (Information Systems Technology) and ECE (Early Childhood Education) programs. Upon arrival at the Humane Society of Adams County’s animal shelter, the HSAC staff provided each of the 22 students with a donut and task list . The students were so eager to help that the original goal of cleaning out the garage was soon expanded. Students helped shelve dog and cat food, swept, gathered trash, organized other items in the garage, painted the cat quarantine room, cleaned/power washed cages, reorganized the cat room, and walked the dogs. The volunteers took a break for lunch, which was very generously provided by Giovanni’s Pizzeria of West Union. The owner and staff at Giovanni’s went above and beyond to make sure all of the students had enough to eat and drink! The day was a huge success and both the ECE and IST programs are grateful for the opportunity to help an organization that helps so many.

The last round of OVCTC Early Childhood Education juniors visited Peebles Elementary last week. While there, they observed two different classrooms each looking at teaching strategies, classroom management strategies and the overall environment of the school. The students have learned so much this year from visiting other schools and classrooms. We thank the staff at Peebles Elementary for allowing our students this opportunity.

The students in the Ohio Valley CTC Early Childhood Education program made surprise visits to the entire staff of WUES to deliver floats as a thank you for teacher appreciation week. Mrs. Hoop and her students are very thankful for the amazing opportunities Mr. King and the WUES staff provide our students throughout the year. We hope this small token of appreciation brightened their day and we wish all teachers and staff a wonderful Teacher appreciation week.

OVCTC’s Hunter Harris is a top state FFA contender in the proficiency area of grain production. He had to go through an extensive application and interview process to make it this far. Join us tomorrow at the 10 am Ohio FFA state convention livestream session to see where he places out of the top four in Ohio’s best in grains! Hunter’s parents are Stephen and Crystal Harris and they reside in West Union. Best wishes today, Hunter!
Adams County Proud!! This group of young women and men have received their State FFA Degree this week! The Virtual Ohio State FFA Convention recognized each one of them for their effort and hard work. Less than 2 percent of Ohio FFA members will earn their State FFA degree. 17 members earning this award out of a small chapter of 55 members is remarkable! Ohio Valley CTC is proud of our FFA members and look forward to more big accomplishments from these individuals in the future!

Although the academic year is coming to an end, students from our OVCTC Early Childhood Education program are still busy helping students at West Union Elementary. Juniors Hailey Cole and Tori Whitley are shown working with students one on one and in small groups on foundational skills mastered in kindergarten. These opportunities are beneficial for both kindergarten students and our Early Childhood Education students.
The OVCTC is grateful to Rick Carn from Huntley's Napa in West Union for joining the Ag Mech juniors for NAPA Prolink training. This online program allows our students to view parts, research, and build quotes. Thank you for investing in our students!
Last week, the OVCTC Ag Business seniors were very busy brushing up on their animal science skills. The students in the junior class selected the bulls to be used to breed the 5 cows and the 2 heifers on the school farm. Seniors synchronized their female bovines using CIDRs and then conducted a timed AI session today with former Ag Business graduate, David Semple. Nearly all of the students were able to learn this for the first time. Special thanks to both David and another former Ag Business alumni and parent, Jeremy Simpson, for their donations of time and supplies to help our students get a real life experience! It’s great to have wonderful people in our community who provide us with kind of support. Crossing our fingers for some baby calves in January of 2022!
The Ohio Valley CTC Culinary arts program gave their time for community service to Saint Vincent De Paul. The students helped carry and arrange food for the church and organized the pick up location. Saint Vincent De Paul has been very generous to our students in the past. Our students wanted to give back to them.
